New ways to promote Drupal in Montreal

All Drupal service providers in Montreal and Quebec have a vested interest in promoting the adoption and advancement of Drupal regionally. It's for this that TP1 has taken the initiative in spreading the word on advancements and events related to Drupal in Montreal by utilizing some additional channels to reach broader audiences.

We have created a Facebook Page for news and events related to Drupal Montreal. We believe Facebook Pages are an effective mechanism to reach the broader audience of Facebook users.

Social networking accounts: unified approach to store in external account data in user content profiles?

Currently, drupal integration with networking sites happens through contrib modules that all store their settings in different ways. For example, both Facebook Connect and Twitter store combinations of drupal user IDs with external IDs (Facebook uid, and Twitter account name) in custom database tables, and both provide a custom interface to edit social network account information in a user profile. Consequently, views integration is custom and relies on the contrib module to implement it.

RFC: new twitter_filter module

I'd like to create a new module that makes it easy to syndicate content from twitter and make it look good by linking to short urls, inlining images and showing videos. twitter_filter is focussed on processing content syndicated from twitter, rather than syndicating content to twitter (see twitter.module).

News Aggregator can be used to syndicate content from twitter:

I'd like to create a module that:

IRC and Twitter

Hey all -

Just another PSA here, to let everyone know there's now a Twitter account set up if you want to follow for meetup reminders, etc. at http://twitter.com/vandug. The group admins all have access to the password, and if one of us gets fancy, we'll set up some kind of hashtag retweeter system.

Expanding onto other sites

FYI for the current group members - I know that sometimes I forget to log into groups.drupal.org, so I created some tie-in accounts on other popular sites that I'll be updating along with this group. Hopefully this will help expand our reach to a few new members as well as help keep everyone more informed on their website of choice.

Twitter: http://twitter.com/drupalnebraska
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=237531965257
Upcoming: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/group/16259/

Also a reminder that we have our own IRC chat as well. If you don't know how to use IRC or have an IRC client, you can use the handy-dandy IRC webchat link: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=drupal-nebraska. Just type in the name you want to use and click the 'Connect' button! Hope to see you here, in IRC, or on the other sites!

Twitter hash (#) tag and roll call

Do we have a twitter hash tag for this group? i.e. #cindug or #dunkoh

Would be cool to leverage twitter's ease of use for quick questions and aggregate the conversations here for those who stop by. Thoughts? (please post your twitter name as well so can add each other)

Twitter, this group, project managment and an introduction

Hi. I am a Drupal webmaster/project manager/user experience specialist, and am VERY interested in integrating Wave into my client projects right out of the gate. I am also waiting on sandbox access, so haven;t had a chance to play yet. I've expressed interest at the Wave module page in helping however I can - testing, UX review, documentation, whatever I can. I think one of the immediate decisions that needs to be clarified for people like me is: when is it appropriate to recommend that we implement a Wave server vs just using a third-party provider? Is it number of sites the client is managing? is it infrastructure-dependent? Is it branding considerations? I'm sure the answers are yes, yes and yes to some degree, but I think it will be instructive to begin work on some best-practice guidelines to help us Drupal folks know the landscape a little better. I am VERY excited about Wave, and can't wait until we have a module to begin messing with. FUN!!

Another thing - I've started a DrupalWave Twitter account for us to use. I know it's not convenient for long posts but maybe just some of the more announcement-type stuff and smaller issues could be addressed there. I expect that I'm hardly the best candidate for inside information and the latest scoops -- I just want to make sure that we have a voice out there in Twitterland and to contribute any way I can. Having issued that last caveat,
