How do you monitize your stations?

cookiesunshinex - Tue, 2009-06-23 07:08

I'm wondering what kinds of stations people are running who use drupal and the station module as your front end.

Looking at most of the site links that I see in poster's signatures, I see many of them are college radio station, or seemingly other non-profit stations.

Is there anybody out there who is a for-profit station? Or at least do not have your bandwidth funded or subsidized from an organization such as university.

Anybody using Centova Cast on the backend?

Hello,

I have a site setup that runs an icecast2 server on the backend. I'm using Centova Cast (http://www.centova.com) on the backend as well to see listener stats and schedule an auto-dj and playlists when we don't have a live show.

I'm using Drupal on the front end with the station module.

I use the On Air block to show what show is playing when we have live scheduled DJs, but I would like to display the song name in this block when Centova's auto-dj function is running.

I have an installation of the 5.x-2.0 version of the station module and I am currently trying to get the archive part set up. I installed Streamripper at /streamripper on my server, and the import directory is located at /www/SITE/sites/default/modules/station/archive/import. Both of these paths have been changed in the ripper.inc file.

When I run ripper.php, I get the following error:

Hello everybody,

I've been trying to get some help on multiple issues i'm facing with the audio and station modules .

These are the facts:

  • I've got an akamaized storage folder where all of the audio (mp3) files are currently located. The files should stay there (OUTSIDE of drupal's 'files' directory).
  • The files don't have any id3 tags in them. Their filename is coded like: " , .mp3" (e.g. "20090308 John Doe, Jane Doe.mp3")
  • The files are also using Greek (iso8859-7) characters.

The problems are quite obvious:

We are also using the current release of station but finding that we need to make modifications based our needs as it relates to shows and the schedule display.

An ongoing series of lessons, sessions, and workshops on Drupal media and arts.

Goals and Objectives

  • Showcase how producers and media organizations are leveraging Drupal.
  • Bridge the gap between the geek world and the real world (who mostly don't know the world beyond MySpace).
  • Demonstrate how artists can leverage new technologies and reach an audience without having to compromise their art.
  • Gain a more comprehensive understanding of the modules available and the ways they are being used
  • See how producers and media organizations are leveraging Drupal.

Is it possible to make a monthly schedule?

This is a great module, but I see that this is a weekly schedule.

Our radio station will have both weekly and monthly shows. Is it possible to configure this module to use a month schedule?

Also, when I click on a program if I am logged out (anonymous user) I get "You are not authorized to access this page"
I can't figure out why an anonymous user cannot view the program node.

Here's the modules I have enabled:

PHP4 - Web stream links dead

Hello all,

I'm using the station module on a PHP 4.4.4 / D5.12 installation.

When setting up the module, i get the following error on the browser:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '&', expecting T_VARIABLE or '$' in ......\schedule\station_schedule.module on line 874

That line contains the following:

foreach ($streams as $key => &$stream) {

which i've found that probably is a PHP5 code line as the '&' character references the $streams array and this is not possible in PHP4.

I'm not a coder, so i could be wrong.

Questions about radio station website

Greetings to everybody.

I'm trying to set up a website for a radio station and i need to display a media player at the front page with SOME of the day's shows.

All shows are automatically saved as mp3. No website module is involved in this process.
So i need to manually pick some of them and import them (i guess?) to drupal so as they are enlisted in the media player, ready to be streamed (i'd like to have them streamed, but if download is easier/feasible, it'll be ok too..).

Can someone give me an idea of how that could be accomplished? What modules should i use?

Is there any way to make a schedule block? It could be great to have a block showing a range of hours of this day shedule. For example, you join at 16:00, and the block shows the schedule from 15:00 to 21:00.

Any tips/ideas?

Multiple Stations on a single site?

Any tips or warnings about setting up the station module on a single website which hosts information about 5 different radio stations? Can it be done or is it assumed that the station module only handles one station per install? Should I expected to need to install station across multiple 'sites' if I want to use it's features independently for each station?

Thanks for any insight.

First I want to thank you those who wrote the magnificent Station module. I was able to migrate a static web radio site to Drupal making the broadcasters very happy.

In this case, the radio is streaming their programs using the mms protocol and they are unable to rip the stream using stream ripper.
Though they are able to provide mp3 files with the program's recording, the software used to create these files can not save them with the UNIX time stamp file name, only with the standard format YYYYMMDDhhmm.mp3.

Adding More Playlist Fields

neskie - Thu, 2008-07-17 19:53

Thanks to everyone who's worked on this module it's great and robust I just have one comment:

It would be nice to have a configurable set of fields for the playlists. The link field is not very useful and it would be useful to us to have a 4 other Boolean fields for our own purposes.

Fields could be added through the station/settings page:

admin/settings/station/playlist

With a hook that adds fields to statoin_playlist_track as needed.

Of course this doesn't have to be limited Boolean fields but that's what we would need. Is this something other people would like to work on?

I just came across http://www.google.com/radioautomation/index.html . When did Google enter the radio automation market? I'd be very interested to see what the pricing looks like. My guess is that they did this as a long range way to sell audio ads to radio stations. Outsource your sales department to Google and the ads just magically show up in the playlists.

Does anyone here have any ideas on how to put a 10-30 second promo in front of the audio played out using the 1pixel player in the audio module? The KBOO.FM pledge drive is coming up, and they'd like to add a small promo file just during the drive (not permanently part of the actual files).

I guess it could be done with a playlist, but before I try to write custom code, thought I'd look for a ready-made solution.
