From my experience, there are a few major things lacking in Drupal. One of them that I have encountered a lot is the ability - or inability to manage files/documents effectively. I'd like to start laying the groundwork for a comprehensive file (or at least document) manager that allows some of the more popular feature requests e.g check in/check out, protected files & directories etc.

Senior Programmer - Tech Lead | Forum One Communications
We are looking for experienced and talented PHP programmers who are passionate about technology, open source platforms, and helping leading organizations raise their impact using the power of online tools.
DESCRIPTION
Drupal Developer - Project Work | MetroHosting.net
We have a small Drupal project for an experienced programmer to move quickly on. We've beyond our capacity at the moment and have picked up a project that must be done within the next 2 weeks.
Scope of work:
1. Taking pre-programmed HTML layouts for a 5-6 page website and hooking them up to an already built Drupal configuration that has been used for several of our sites.
2. Some customization of the Drupal configuration will be required.
send experience, several work samples and hourly rate. I would like to select someone by Monday. This should be an 6-8 hour project.
Drupal Tutor | Michelle Cantrell
I had a drupal designer/developer create a web site for me in Drupal but now I am struggling with how to use it as the end user/content manager. Even the most basic of tasks have been challenging for me, and my designer/developer is not local, and somewhat unresponsive. I would love to sit down with someone for a few hours to help me figure everything out. I am quick learner, but without any basic knowledge of how to use Drupal, I am finding that my learning curve is slowing me down immensely.
Vote for a Drupal Site to Win Apps for Democracy Contest!
We thought the Apps for Democracy contest was a great way to show the DC government that Drupal is the leading open source platform for government project and a great chance to get them familiar with the platform. So we built a Drupal site and entered it in the contest. You can vote for it here. You don't need to log in so it only takes three seconds to vote, but voting closes tonight at midnight, so vote soon!
The site we built is called DC Bikes and you can check it out here. It's a guide to biking in DC and puts mostly city data on a map so people find detailed bike routes in DC, monitor bike theft in real time, and buy bike equipment on Craigslist. This site is built on Drupal and is the only submission that is 100% open source - we used open source Mapnik for our maps rather than Google Maps. Specifically we used FeedAPI and Feed Element Mapper for the site's aggregation, and the spaces module allowed us to build it pretty quickly.
Documentation Sprint: DC Doc Love
Let's get together and whip up some Doc Love. We'll meet for 3 hours at the DC Public Library to work on Drupal and then, if folks are interested, we can go out for food and drinks after. We have a medium meeting room (A-9) reserved from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat. November 8. (For directions to the room, see below in the Where? section.)
Northern VA Users Group November Meet-Up
Please mark your calendar and tell your friends - Northern Virginia Drupal Meetup is next Wednesday at Baileys Pub and Grill at 6:30 PM.
This month's fabulous topic is

CMS product selection help
Hello!
I'm hoping to solicit some help reviewing Drupal as a possible replacement product for our current in-house content management system. We have been reviewing various cms products and need some help presenting the concepts of Drupal to business users. If you have experience presenting and think you can help, please drop me a line and I'll fill you in on more details. Or if you can recommend a consulting group, please let me know.
Thank you,
Derrick Stone

DC Doc sprint
As some of you may know, I've been neck-deep in Drupal's Doc team work. The doc sprints that we have had at the last two Drupalcons have been a ton of fun and very productive. I'd like to run a local sprint down in DC sometime before the end of the year. The basic idea that I am thinking right now is to find a location that will let us camp out with wifi for about 4-6 hours on a weekend. I'd be there the entire time but others could just drop by as they had time. I'd be there to help folks get situated, find docs tasks that they find interesting and generally answer questions.
Slides posted from last night's event
Everyone, the slides from last night's event are posted on Meetup.com
While you are there, make sure to sign up for our group. We find it is a great way to spread the interest in the group.
Info on next month's meeting coming soon.
Thanks,
Jeff
