Dallas Texas

Welcome, Dallas Drupalers! The Lone Star State has a lot of area to cover, so this group, the Dallas Texas Drupal Community, is for those in North Texas. This includes the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area and surroundings. We need to meet each other and find out who, where, and how Drupal is being used in the area.

Visit our website (a work in progress) at www.DrupalJedi.com to connect with others in the group, post info and comments, and find out about upcoming events.

How are small/single-person web studios doing in the DFW area?

nitrospectide's picture

nitrospectide - Wed, 2009-05-20 15:15

Hi all,

I am in the Northern New Jersey area (a little ways from NYC), and am considering a relocation to Texas. I have a single-person studio doing marketing communications with a web/drupal/flash focus. For those of you in a similar business, how are things going in the Dallas area? I'm trying to get a feel for what the market is like.

I've been using drupal for a couple of years, and do light to medium informational sites in drupal (communications is my thing, not application building).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Code Sprint for new DrupalJedi.com Site

obiwan@drupal.org's picture
private
obiwan@drupal.org - Fri, 2009-05-15 17:48
Start:
2009-06-06 09:00 - 16:00 UTC

DrupalJedi will schedule a Code Sprint for Saturday, June 6th.

Our original site www.Drupaljedi.com was done in Drupal 5 almost 2 years ago when many of us were just starting out with Drupal. We never themed it, and at the time just made it a "if you want to add something to it, go for it" group project. A little messy but it worked! The group has grown since then and many have found the site useful...but it needs a serious makeover!

We'll be building a new site in Drupal 6 so that DrupalJedi.com will no longer be a site you are embarrassed to tell other Drupalers about!

Think web performance is all about load balancing, database indexes, and memory management? Think again. Recent research shows that 80-90% of the end-user response time is spent on the front-end.

The way you develop your site's HTML, CSS, and JavaScript makes a big impact on how long it takes your site to load. But, speeding up your site doesn't have to mean throwing out best practices. Chris Griego ( http://www.boldpx.com/ ) will show you the guidelines and techniques to combine performance with a solid front-end architecture.

With the recent launch of Drupal 6, I wanted to start some dialog about transitioning to the new core. Has anyone moved their sites, or created any new sites in Drupal 6? If so, what were the snags (if any) for upgrading? I have most of my Drupal installs at 5.5+, so just curious to see if there are any early adopters out there.

Hi,

On my Drupal host served from http://www.linode.com, I also run a mail server. I receive email for the domain, example: headcoach AT planowestlacrosse DOT org, and, I also use the SimpleNews module to send out a weekly email newsletter.

I created a pretty robust system following the instructions here:

http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/

It was pretty intense work to get that all to work. How do other website admins do mail? Is there an easier way?

Cheers.
