State of Issues

This is an overview of the e-Commerce issues queue. Also some information about about how much the number of issues have grown or shrunk.

General figures

Last update

30 May

Total bugs

135 (+78, -25, +16, -63, -64)

Number of pages

17 (+8, -1, 0, -6!!, -6!!, +1, +6)

"Module with most issues" rank

8th (19th, 16th, 15th, 8th, 4th, 2nd, 2nd)

Previous updates

19 Jan 2008, 19 Dec, 18 Oct, 29 Jul, 29 Jun, 23 Apr, 2 Mar 2007

Bugs per module

I arrive at these figures by taking the default list and subtracting those that are fixed (fixed issues are automatically closed and hidden after 2 weeks). The (+x, +y, -z) type numbers show a the history of how many issues (more or less) there were at each update of this page. The figures on the far right are the oldest updates.

e-Commerce v4 Goals

Very basic summaries, to be fleshed out.

This version has some great new features already, some not listed here. Yet, we need to focus on some bug fixing and making some modules more generic.

e-Commerce 4.0

eC 4.0 beta is planned to be released sometime after the Drupal 6 RC1 (Release Candidate 1).

Address book

Improve country/state/postcode checking

<del>making it simpler for people add addresses and specify "same as above".</del>

Big clean up

Split all modules into separated projects on drupal.org.

<del>Formally remove unsupported modules (ie. any module not in the v3 download).</del> (done)

<del>Split all admin function of all modules into a new file, reducing the footprint. cart, subproducts, store, products</del>

Charge (former Flexicharge)

<del>Rename it as eC Charge.</del>

<del>Provide a upgade script to move Flexicharge data to eC Charge.</del> (done)

Englobe Tax module.

Simplify the module interface.

Customer API

Create admin process to allow the conversion of customers between different types. ie. If the site is using e-Commerce and then installs CiviCRM it will convert the existing customers into CiviCRM customers so the transaction information can be viewed in CiviCRM

eC Views

<del>Eliminate the module and include the functionality into each module</del>

<del>Delete the hardcoded /products page and let the entire job to Views module.</del>

File

<del>Fix inumerous bugs</del>

<del>Add the support for multiple files</del>

<del>Integrate with Parcel and Subproduct modules (currently, they dont work)</del>

Payment module

<del>Implement generic callback for when the payment status is changed.</del>

<del>Remove "on payment complete" callback in favor of new callback</del>

<del>Create Receipting system so that receipts are independent of transactions</del> (done)

<del>Remove the Payment module.</del>

Convert all payment gateways to the new Receipt system

Product module

<del>Convert product types to "plugins" to be applied to a generic product (tangible/shippable, auction, subproduct, file).</del> (there are now product "features")

<del>Analyse the possibility of ripping off the "product" node type</del>

Recurring

Fix inumerous bugs

Shipping

<del>Merge Shipping and Shipcalc.</del> (no more Shipcalc. hook_update() still needed)

Smarter shipping options in cart.

Avoid conflicts where some items in cart cannot be shipped a certain way.

Store module

<del>This will include things like the refactoring of store_transactions_save() and much better hooks for when transactions status's change.</del> (done)

<del>Add new hooks hook_transactionapi_pre() and hook_transactionapi_post() so that you can do things before the transaction update, and after the update has finished.</del> (done. see store_transaction_save())

<del>Create a transaction cache so that we are not reloading the transaction so many times.</del>

<del>Implement generic callback for when there is a change in workflow</del>

<del>Create an micro API to let developers and users expand the store overview page with more information.</del> (Overview Widgets feature. Also, eC Dashboards create a series of charts)

Implement new function and hook which will return a list of all the roles once the transaction has been completed.

Subproduct module

<del>Merge to EC Live Subproducts module.</del> (done)

<del>Any node can be an attribute.</del> any product can be (done)

<del>Attribute from attributes</del> (done)

Tax API

<del>Needed some work for a while.</del>

e-CiviCRM

Re-write e-CiviCRM to use the new customer interfaces

Usability Improvements

<del>Improve usability by reviewing the checkout process to make sure that it is clear to potential customers and is not overly complex</del> (it relies on receipts module)

<del>Review the Ecommerce setup process and configuration organization. Are configuration options too spread out and group in non logical ways? What are there barriers to getting Ecommerce up an running? Can these be fixed without compromising the flexibility of the system?</del>

Review Ecommerce transaction workflow from a store administrator perspective. Do things make sense at first glance? Are key options grouped logically?

Are there areas where the usability could be improved via additional, niceful degrading AJAX/AHAH or other Javascript enhancments? <del>(Add to cart without reloading the page)</del>

<del>Add some icons and images to improve the interface with users</del>

e-Commerce 4.1

eC 4.1 has no release date. It will be some time after the 4.0 version release.

Address book

Make changes to allow custom address fields. There is an "profiles as nodes" movement looking at cck driven profiles, this may be the path... however, the actual strategy is not decided. On Hold We will revisit this once we get to Drupal 6.

Charge

Weight rate.

Dashboards

Include several new dashboards.

File

Maybe replace the ec_recurring module by third party e-Commerce Sale module.

Payment Gateways

Google Checkout official support

Recurring

Simplify the setup pages

Automatic recurring payments

Shipping

Pluggable packaging code (ie. item-grouping) for better shipping prices

Local Pickup

Free shipping promotion

Store

Allow users set what overview widgets they want to see.

Create an options API on Overview widgets.

Automatic config location settings: measures, currency formats.

Subproduct module

Add the attributes that multiply the price, instead sum

e-Commerce 4.2

There is no plans to eC4.2 yet.

Drupal Developer/Themer for small used car site | Seale Design

I am an experienced designer with a client who wants a used car site where he can add new cars and delete others on a daily basis.
Here is an example of a site similar to what I need.
http://www.cars2suit.co.uk/

Please give me an idea of how much this would cost if all text, comps and optimized photos and site map were provided. A range is OK. Open to other ideas also.

The dealer has about 35 vehicles at a time on the lot and has cars, trucks, trailers, motorcycles.

Thanks, Suzanne

--This isn't a rush job but I would like it to move along to make the release date of August 15.

Help wanted: Devel generate for Drupal 5 and 6

Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who you like to write a generate module which will generate transactions for e-Commerce 3.x under Drupal 5. basically this would be similar to the generate modules in the devel module but it will create random transactions and products.

This means that I can test the upgrade of the e-Commerce from 3.x to 6.x and be able to bed it all down.

Thanks
Gordon.

e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-rc9 has been released

Hi,

I have just released rc9. I have been a doing a lot of work on it over the past couple of days changing the checkout to use ctools object cache so that I could get PalPal Express working in Drupal 6.x. Because of changes to the formapi in Drupal 6, and because you need to leave the checkout to go to PayPal and then come back it was just not working.

This was not the only reason for using ctools but because ctools comes with a modal dialog support for ec_charge and also when I looked at it the form wizard will make it so that the checkout can be as many or as few pages as you want and handle all that stuff without me having to deal with it, and add things like the breadcrumbs in the checkout and other things. Also a long the lines of usability I have added support for the vertical tabs module which looks great when enabled and e-Commerce takes advantage of this.

The changes to the checkout may not be there by the time 4.0 is released but will be in a following release.

ATM recurring payments will only work in PayPal as I have not yet coded up the extra stuff for express to be able to start setting up recurring payments.

I think this is coming real close to a final release. I only have 4 cards left ATM and once they are done I think I will be looking very seriously at a final release unless something comes up. So I will do and then there will be an rc10 which should be the last version. Please test and submitting any issues and I will get them out of the way.

See http://drupal.org/node/477726 for information and to download

Saving Credit Card Numbers

Hi,

I am looking a little down the track and I was just wanting to gauge the interest in allowing customers to save credit card numbers for later use.

eWay (and I am guessing others) supports a method which allows users to save their credit cards for later use. Would people be interested in having a feature like this for their customers.

Also (forgetting patent isues) this would be the first step for allowing users to have single click purchasing.

Let me know if this is something you would like.

Gordon.

Per user discount (& module documentation)

Hello,

Is there a ec4 module that allows to assign a discount (% on the listed product price) per user?

Also, here (http://groups.drupal.org/node/17377) is a nice list of all the modules but I can't seem to find a (brief) description of them. Can we document those somewhere?

HSBC (CPI) payment gateway module for Drupal eCommerce API

hi guys, Just flagging the release of a new payment gateway module called ec_hsbc.module that works with Drupal 6.x and Drupal eCommerce API version 4.x.

http://drupal.org/project/ec_hsbc

It provides CPI integration with the HSBC secure ePayments service.

cheers,

Help wanted: Shipping Integration

Hi,

I am getting to the pointy end of the 4.0 release for Drupal 6, and 1 area which has not had too much attension.

I am looking for someone who would like to develop shipping integration calculation for any shipping company. Main to test my thoughts on how this will be done. Really all you will be doing is implementing the communitication between e-Commerce and the shipping company and I will provide all the interfaces and other information and then you can send this off to the shipping company.

If anyone wants to help please let me know.

e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-rc6 has been released

I have just released rc6 http://drupal.org/node/446142 and it is getting better and better. ATM I am releasing a new RC every 7-10 days, mainly because I am actively deploying new sites to my own clients and it is much easier to do than loading on devs, and the following conversations that I will end up having.

Over the next week I am going to starting to get recurring payments working, which will include getting ec_recurring upgraded all the updates to ec_receipts and ec_paypal. The first gateway to support recurring payments is going to be PayPal, and then either Authorize.net or eWay depending on who wants it first.

ec Charges has been worked on a bit more and is really becomming great and is blowing away all my expectations that I ever had. If someone wants to work with me on a shipping calculation just let me know.

If there are any problems please let me know.

e-Commerce charges

I have done quite a bit of work over the past few days and I have gotten the new charge system working really great. In actual fact I think that it is working better than I ever imagined.

ATM I have not built all the componets that I want to build, but it is still kicking butt. Also remember this new charging system that has been built replaces shipping, discounts, tax modules and is all pretty much just point and click to build new charges.

The majority of the time store owners will not need developers to build new charges or discounts. However for integration into shipping companies will need to work to build up the calculation componet to get the prices from the shipping API, but I see there being module being released for integration into shipping companies, and the component API is very easy so it is not hard.

The other thing is that if you want to you can use multiple shipping companes together to give the customer the best price. So you could offer standard post or a shipping company to give the customer the options. Not only that the store owner can actually use different shipping methods for different delivery destinations. Also if someone really wanted to they could write new filter componets for determining which warehouse to ship from and then calculate the changes based upon different start points. (Note I have no need for this, So I have not developed it, But someone could develop a warehouse module to handle this).

These charges can also be defined where they are added in the system, so you can add them to a product or to the transaction. So role based discounts are just a filter, and nothing more. Even if you want to charge anonymous customer a higher price, a couple of clicks and there you go.

This also means that I do not have to be an expert and every different type of tax around that world. I saw a tweet that another open source cart that they were having a meetup on how to implement VAT in their cart. e-Commerce can leave this to the store owner who needs to know how to this anyway, and I don't need to worry about whether a store owner doesn't like how I implemented it, since they will define it.

I have attached Australian GST as an example. It is pretty simple.

Once I get some breathing space I am going to add an import/export system for charges so we can build you a library of these for people to use.

Research and Design Philosophy:
Research should be conducted, if not already known and understood, on the targeted demographic and psychographic audiences and any viable current ideas or competing ideas and companies.
The graphical elements, imagery, and/or photography need to be collected and/or purchased, edited (color-corrected and optimized), and integrated into the overall plan. The site architecture should be planned and a framework should be created. Design concepts and sketches should be planned and laid out accounting for any necessary design revisions of the layout or its elements.

Once the concept/design is approved by NSH, the physical coding of the added site pages / attributes can commence and incorporate the graphical elements and design principles from the research / concept / design phase into the layout and code.

Design and Development Guidelines:
- Use new design (old site www.nylasimonehome.com) for for newer usage. Metroplolitan Home and Ell eDécor Magazine look and feel.
- Forms 1. submit to an email address, 2. have an autoreply to user, 3. store in database
- Need small custom backend with login to dump database entries from form submits into two CSV files, one for direct mailing with physical address info from Interior Design Services page and the other with name/email for building email campaign lists
- Press page like gallery page but with magazine thumbnails linking to PDFs
- NSH wants ability to simply update and add new content to the following pages: newsletter, News/Events, products w/ descriptions, special offers, seasonal sales (non-static Special offer has focal point appearance on front page like www.westelm.com does)(i.e., Spring Sale Event, Summer Sales Event, Fall Sales Event, Winter Sales Event, Twice-Annual Clearance Events, Presidents Day Sale, Memorial Day Sale, Labor Day Sale)
Upgrade from Drupal 5.x / E-Commerce 3.x

Hello. This is my first post to this group. Moderator, please delete If it ends up in the wrong spot,

We've been selling products and subscriptions for about two years using Drupal 5.x / E-Commerce 3.x . We're now looking at upgrading to Drupal 6.x / E-Commerce 4.x. I've looked for info on upgrading E-Commerce, to no avail. If I've missed it, please point me in the right direction. If not, I'm going to figure out for myself how to go about it.

I expect that I'll be writing some SQL, and maybe some PHP to glue it together. If anyone familiar with both 3.x and 4.x can take five minutes and post some loose thoughts on where I might get started or problems I might run into, I'd greatly appreciate it. And I'll post whatever I come up with for the benefit of others who might be doing the same thing.

Oh, and I realize that some modules, notably ec_recurring for my usage, still aren't ready for 4.x. I'll burn that bridge when I get to it.

Updating Advanced help in e-Commerce

I just saw this module http://drupal.org/project/helpinject floating across the twitter timeline and was quite interested. Basically it allows you to import documentation from Advanced help and then export it back.

This perked my interest esp since I need to write a lot of documentation for advanced help to make it a lot more useful in e-Commerce for the final release.

Using this module I would be able to crowd source a lot of this inline documentation to other people who would like to see more information about different functions within e-Commerce.

This is however a 6.x only module, and luckily I am in the of upgrading http://drupalecommerce.org to 6.x so I am thing very seriously about adding in this module so people can easlily update the documentation that is contained within the e-Commerce modules.

With this I am planning to also add the public api's so that people writing code can find is much easier.

Please leave comments if you think this is a good idea or not. I am hoping to upgrade it all this weekend if I cn get around the menu upgrade problem.

An e-Commerce Project?

I'd love to work on a project related to the latest version of e-Commerce for Drupal 6. Maybe writing tests, or contributed modules for it, or maybe just porting some of some of the modules not ported to 6.x. Any ideas or thought? I'm open to all ideas/suggestions.

e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-rc1 has been released

This has been a long time coming, I do not doubt that there will be more work, but now it is main clean ups. I feel all the functionality is there and really more than anything just needs hammering on.

One of the things that I was concentrating on when doing any bug fixes was to start doing them as Test driven development so I would create a test and then from the test fix the issue. This means that when the new PIFR system comes I will turn on the testing for e-Commerce so that everytime a commit is done, all the tests will be run and everytime a new patch is uploaded it will be applyed and tested so when we get to a new patch we know that it applies, and that it passes all the tests.

There is only a few tests ATM but as time goes by more will be developed, and I am getting faster at developing them so I will add them as I find tests to add, and as I fix issues. If you have any ideas for tests please create an issue and someone will get to them. I would prefer to have too many ideas for tests than not enough.

With all the new and much better things in the Drupal community has to offer I always things how much better it is being within the Drupal community. It is much easier to leverage what we have here than have to set up and maintain my own systems outside the Drupal community.

One of the main areas that I have been working on is to move all the theme_*() out into template files. I have completed the ec_cart module and I am working on others. Anyone wants to help please jump in.

Also the decision to have views do all the reporting is the greatest thing ever. I added a few lines of code and now ec also leverages the drupal search system to allow full text based searches of invoices and receipts. Then added some minor amounts of code for views and we now have a text based search. There were some sticking points with this as having a whole heap of exposed filters at the top of a report is very ugly. Now with some creative form and themes I have them all hidden away in a collapsible fieldset.

I also have a podcast that I am putting the finishing touches on and hope to release some time this week.

See http://drupal.org/node/414432 to download and see more information.

e-Commerce Training interest

Hi,

With the release of the first RC for e-Commerce 4.0 I am looking to run training here in Melbourne Aust.

I am thinking that this will be a 2-3 day training coarse which will cover the installation of e-Commerce and configuration of e-Commerce, the laying out your the site with theming and development of views. Integration into your current workflow, and integration into existing system (Using the API), how to build a payment gateway etc.

Generally when I run training I leave the last half day as a free time to work on student directed training. So anything that you can think of. Basically half a day to pick my brains on any topic.

Right now I have no dates in mind, but I am just looking at finding out if there is enough interest to make sure it is worth while in moving forward with this endevour.

I know that Australia is a long way from everyone, I am also looking at adding online training sessions as well so if you are interested please let me know.

Thanks in advance.
e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-beta7 has been released. Final beta!!!

e-Commerce 4.0 is now feature complete. Other than just doing the final clean ups and writting more of the standard extensions to modules like adding more filters to ec_charge, or some more product features. Since this is the case this is going to be the final BETA and if there are no major issues I will be releasing the first release candidate in the next week or so.

There has been a lot of work on getting the final piece of e-Commerce done. ec Charges is now implemented and working. It will create miscellaneous charges on any transaction. There is still work to be done on the extensions to ec charge but the API is quite nice and these will be added. If you have any ideas for filters, variables or calculations please drop just raise an issue, and I will look into it.

The main area I would like to be concentrated on is the ec charges. These are miscellaneous changes are added like setup fees, shipping, taxes, and anything else that can be dreamed up. Please post any issues and I will get them sorted as quick as possible.

See http://drupal.org/node/399036 for changes

ClickandBuy (as used by itunes, 7digital, mp3.de) payment gateway module now available for Drupal eCommerce.

hi Guys,

Just a quick heads up about a new module called ClickandBuy that's almost ready for a beta release.

ClickandBuy is a popular payment gateway that is used by Apple Itunes Music Store, 7Digital, MP3.de, publishers such as BILD.DE, Wall Street Online, Habbo, Welt Online, Spiegel Online, TV companies such as MTV, RTL Interactive, 7, N-tv.de and internationbal companies like T-Mobile, BT (British Telecom), MSN, WEB.de, Telefonica and Orange.

ClickandBuy supports 13 languages and 46 different local & national payment methods, including Credit/debit cards, online direct debit, online bank transfer, e-money and their own ClickandBuy accounts.

More details are available across on the ClickandBuy project page, but, I thought it worth a mention as it is a payment gateway that is in use by so many well known music shops, like itunes, 7 digital and others. It's also licensed for e-Money by the British Financial Services Authority (FSA) which is arguably better coverage than what Paypal offers..i.e. Paypal isn't a bank so doesn't have to comply with normal banking regulations and protection.

The fees for ClickandBuy vary. The deal I got was 1.9% + 0.35 EUR per transaction..which is not a million miles from competitive rates. I'm hoping to persuade ClickandBuy to open up a free setup and good rates deal for Drupal users. So if you're thinking of using this payment gateway, please drop me an email.

Cheers

Gauging interest in a Recurring Billing and Subscription Management Module for Drupal

Howdy:

We're gauging interest in the need for a module to manage recurring billing and paid subscriptions within Drupal.

The Problem:

Our experience is that a simple solution is sorely needed for Drupal. Particularly for paid roles.

Solutions for this exist with AMember, CiviCRM, UberCart and eCommerce (not for 6.0 for eCommerce). But there are problems inherent with each solution.

The Current Solutions:

aMember is good software, but it is a third party, and kludgy when it comes to different payment processors. AMember has to be installed separately, you have to buy the Drupal Plugin and then you have to hack one of the core modules.

UberCart: Make no mistake... Ubercart and the UberCart community are AWESOME. However Ubercart for just this function described above is overkill, and only recently added.

eCommerce: Subscription Management is no longer avail in 6, Version 5 comes with 35 modules.

CiviCRM: Can do it, but it's also a bit kludgy and designed really for the donar/non-profit space.

There is a 5.0 module in the developers repository that is ambitious and does much of what we are proposing, but looks quite a bit away from stable, and does not seem to be under active development. Also we can't get it to stop giving us fatal errors in Drupal 5.9.

Our Proposed Solution:

The way we see it, none of the above solutions are ideal for those who want to do one very simple, but much needed thing: and that is to charge for a portion of your site, a members only area based on role, and have that bill recurring. Allow for trials and coupons. And that is it. End of story. No other functions. No other frameworks, all lives in Drupal.

We are proposing a free basic module for the Drupal community, and offering a paid advanced module (fully realizing the GPL implications).

Looking for feedback, ideas, other solutions out there they may exist and we have not researched, etc. Lastly if this were to become available would you use it for yourself and clients?

We're very serious about doing this... so your input is highly valued. We have a great deal of experience in working with Authorize.net and other payment processors. Grip Media focuses on simplicity and ease of use over too many features and bloatware.

Thank you!

gripmedia.net

price linked to role

Hi,

I am new to Drupal and I want to create an online catalog with ec4 and drupal 6.
I want to show the price of each product based on the visitor's role, such as retail, reseller, export client.
I do not mean discount. Each product has 3 prices.
When the user does not login, no price is shown.

Btw, can you please tell me where I can find more documentation or manuals for e-commerce?
This would make it easier to start building my site.

Thank you.

New workflow for processing transactions

With the the new e-Commerce I am currently intergration the store with the rules module so that the workflow can be easily altered and customize for meet the needs of the store owner.

Basically e-Commerce should not dictate how the store owner runs their business, but facilitate the running of their business.

But to start off with we will need to provide a default workflow which will allow someone who is not 100% sure to run without too many issues.

I have create a workflow which I will think will run ok, but I would like some comment before I implement this. Remember that if you don't like the basic workflow. you can change it, to meet your needs and not the other way around like most shopping carts/debtor systems.

Please let me know what you think of this workflow and I will take on board any suggestions.

Help wanted

I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to create a static template that could serve to be the default invoice template for the e-Commerce release.

This doesn't have to be in drupal or have any PHP in it, I just need the html and css for an invoice template that can be used to create the default view of the template.

This will mean that people can take this template and create their own template. I would like this to be a CSS based layout, and it can be fixed width because ultimately it will be used to create PDF versions and also be able to print to create hard copy.

Please remember to test the printing of the invoice as no matter if it is printed to a PDF or paper it generally will be printed by someone.

1 thing to remember. The invoice needs to look good, but it can't be complex, as people will be taking this as a starting point.

Thanks in advance.
Multiple Transaction Currencies

Hi all.

I'm new to this, and am not sure if I'm posting in the correct place.

I'm trying to implement multiple country ecommerce, and want to be able display prices in the local currency.

The transaction itself doesn't need to happen in the local currency, I just want customers to be able to see the price in their currency.

This also means being able to set the price for a product in a local currency. This will be OK in my case, because each product is only sold in a single country.

How does one go about this?

Thanks

Glenn

Building a sub-product - Variation in drupal 6

Hello,

Sorry but I'm new to the e-Commerce world,
I want to define a sub product for a clothing shop and I can't find documentation
I need to add to the product size & color selection (I need to be able to select sizes from a list - and after wards I need that the user will choose the size he wants)
if you could please direct me to such information or how to do it

another (different) question as a first stage I only need my customers to make wish lists - what do you think is the best way to create a wish list if I intend to use e-Commerce

Thanks

e-Commerce v4 Updates

Hi,

I have been doing a bit of work on e-Commerce moving towards the new release. I am also stepped back and taken a look at what is important and what is needed to be released. Basically when it was all broken down it there are 3 major areas which need to be completed.

Charges I need to get this finished so that we can start building up the the different plugins to allow people to create any charge that they require.

Views integration I have been quite a bit on this, but there is still alot that can be done. Also where this will be really powerful is that it means that we can create any report or user listing that is needed. This is really I feel is something that other people can do to contribute to e-Commerce. Just submit the exports of views and if they will be something that lots of people will use I will include them into e-Commerce by default. If something is missing I will add what is required which is usually very easy.

Rules Lastly is the rules integration which will allow store administrators to completely customise the workflow be be exactly how you work, and not how e-Commerce things you should work.

The main area where just about anyone can help make e-Commerce be the great system that I see it being is the views integration. You do not need to be a developer you just need to have a basic understanding of views 2 and how to pull together the views. And I am wanting to help anyone who is doing this by providing the building blocks to pull this together.

At this stage I am thinking that I will have the final stable release of 4.0 will be done by the end of Q1 which will be great and then I can start updating to Drupal 7 to be ready for the final release. This will be possible since there should only be minimal changes between releases. Basically it should only be extending the API to help other module developers and updates to take advantage of the new version of Drupal or the other dependant modules.

There is only 1 big floor in my vision for e-Commerce. I will be relying a lot on contributed modules which will extend e-Commerce and make it better. But then again this is exactly like Drupal which is that the majority of it's success is the contributed modules that makes Drupal great.

Ecommerce module as an invoicing system

I see a need, especially with the large number of freelance developers, for an easy to use invoicing payment system that they can tie directly into their sites. This is exactly what I'm looking for.

What would be the best way for me to accomplish this with the ecommerce module? Now, I personally don't necessarily need the invoicing as I'm sure a lot of people do, but I am wanting the following abilities:
- Create an invoice or order on the site for a particular customer
- Have the customer login to see their "open" invoices
- Have the customer to be able to pay for these invoices using CC or online check

If I can get some information or guidance on how to set these up, I'll be more than happy to give back and write a how to article on this kind of function. Looking around, I think this could be a very valuable aspect to this module. Please let me know if I'm completely going the wrong direction with this and should be looking at another module or custom development.

Thanks!
-Patrick

gordon

I would like to see the donate module expaned to see it implement an allocation api for ec_receipt so that you can donate directly from the donation page without having go through the checkout system. Note: I have spoken with @-enzo- about changing the Authorize Donate to use ec_receipts to handle collecting the payments from payment gateways. This means that any payment gateway written for ec_receipts can be used for Authorize donate module, and future advancements like recuring payments can be can be taken advantage of this functionality with very little work.

Changes to e-Commerce

Hi,

Over the past couple of weeks I have been getting a few of the same questions and I thought that post a little on this and explain what is going to be happening with the next release of e-Commerce.

Basically the have been "Where is module xyz?"

Well the answer is that it is not going to be in the e-Commerce core anymore. With the exception of 2 modules there are going to be no more or less modules in e-Commerce core.

The major reasoning for this is that with previous versions of e-Commerce we had 35+ modules which is becomming very un-managable for a small groups of developers. Also it is becomming very hard for us to be able to create releases in a timely fashion. And what I think is the worst part of this is that in the majority of installation most of these modules are not being used.

So given this I have reduced the modules that will be available in core to only 12 (I am going to be adding ec_charge and very likely removing ec_address which will be replaced by addresses module http://drupal.org/project/addresses which will give the same functionality). Out of these modules, 80-90% of them will be used on every site, and enabling them all will not really cause any issues.

This means that setting up a site will be much easier and because there is less code it will be much easier to maintain and also upgrade for future revisions. It also means that we need less hands on deck to be able to maintain and trouble shot any issues.

So what does this mean for the modules left behind? Well this is where we need more people to take responsibility for the other modules, and take them in new directions and improvement them. Since I am not holding on so tight to e-Commerce new developers will be able to take on modules and create new ones. Build new methods for people to do things and make e-Commerce better. And because I have developed as many ways as I can think, developers can extend shops to do just about anything they can think of. If there isn't a hook or api call then we can work together to extend e-Commerce to do what is needed.

Now What? Well if you want to help or you need one of the modules that have been left behind. You can grad the most recent version, upgrade it to Drupal 6.x and e-Commerce v4.x, and then creat their own project and work on it themselves and take control to make it do what ever you can think of.

What if you are not a developer? In that case because of changes to e-Commerce we now use Views and Actions to implement a lot of functionality, so you can start building new reports, and workflows that you think will be needed, and submit them to be included in e-Commerce core. Or lastly you can start helping by documenting and updating the documentation for e-Commerce.

Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Gordon.

All in one general purpose e-commerce solutions:

E-commerce frameworks

These modules provide no commerce themselves, but integrate with payment systems to provide an API to make it easier to build commerce sites:

Linkpoint payment method using e-commerce api

Okay, I gave up waiting for someone else to do it for me ;)

I made a linkpoint module for e-commerce and got cvs permission from drupal to post:

http://drupal.org/project/ec_linkpoint

Really could benefit by having some members try it. It appears to be working, I am using it to have subscribers pay invoices... Would like others to try with shipping and other goods also... It it rough with a lot comments, but it is something!

e-Commerce v4.x-beta4 for Drupal 6.x has been released.

Hi,

We have been putting in a lot of work into e-Commerce since beta3 has been released and today I finished updating checkout to be fully functional.

ATM it is a single page checkout and doesn't allow for multiple pages, but I hope to have this functionality completed by the time we release the final version. Also there is a couple of other issues I need to work out as right now PayPal Express has stopped working because I need to sit down the the formapi and work out how to get it jump between pages or re-enter and existing form so that we can go off to PalPal and get the token from them to process the payment.

Now that I have the checkout more or less in place I am going to go back to working on ec_charge and get that working so that we can create any charge that is required.

There are a couple of things that I would like to see happen. If you are wanting to start experimenting with the new version and help in some way, please let us know.

But basically I would like help with is some of the reports. They are all maintained by views2, so if you want start creating reports and post them if you think other people will use them. If you want to pick up some of the old functionality and start your own e-Commerce project please do. There are plenty of payment gateways that could use converting to the new receipting system, and other modules like ec_roles, and ec_recuring which could need some love.

This version of e-Commerce is going to be the best version and has most of what I want in it. Having other people join in and help would just make this all the better.

Gordon.

This is my first post in groups, so hope you are all doing well..

I need to set up a website with paid membership where after payment users will be able to edit their profile fields provided by Content Profile and use the Blog in their profiles. As far as I found out, to do this I have to create a role with appropriate permissions and upon payment that role should be given.

I want to use D6, so that I can benefit from extended features of it.

So far I couldn't make eCommerce beta3 and Content Profile work together for this on D6.

Considering D5 there are plenty of alternatives. But I don't want to use it unless I have no alternatives in D6.

What do you offer? Can you point me to documentation explaining these, I couldn't really find something worthy so far..

Regards,
Duru.

Canada Post Settings and Fixes

I'm struggling to get Canada Post shipping to work in eCommerce 3.5. I want to collate a page that includes all of the necessary steps to fix it. So far, I've applied some patches, and gotten past a configuration error, but no shipping methods appear in the "Choose shipping method" page during checkout.

Here's what I've done so far.

1) Applied the patch from http://drupal.org/node/143328#comment-554073.

2) Applied the patch from http://drupal.org/node/201042#comment-827422.

3) Put dimension and weight settings on my product.

4) Enabled Canada Post, checked my Merchant ID, and tested all of the APIs. None of them show up on checkout.

I'd love someone to add steps 5) etc. to get this to work. Thanks for your contributions.

e-Commerce v4.x-beta3 for Drupal 6.x has been released.

There have been a lot of bug fixes as well as the a complete rewrite of the checkout. The checkout ATM is only a single page and options like changing address and payment type have not been put back in. These are going to use the #ahah feature of the new formapi to allow users to change much easier. I am going to put back multi page checkouts, but this will be done by configuration and not be forced on the site admin.

The checkout api has completely changed and is now much more modular and should allow for much better formed functions.

Also there were problems with receipting now allowing the processing of receipts which have been fixed and now a complete checkout can be done.

If anyone wants to help they can help by picking other modules that are no longer going to be a part of the core e-Commerce and taking control of these.

Also with the implementation of the new views 2 reports, if anyone wants to start making new reports that they want to include please post them. If there is missing fields/features in the views integration please let me know.

To get the latest version goto http://drupal.org/node/333671

Irish county codes for forms and autocomplete functionality

I Just submitted a patch for the Drupal eCommerce which included a localisation patch for Irish counties - so autocomplete forms work when a customer from the Island of Ireland is selecting their county (state).

This is by no means an official list. It's a list I compiled myself using the county codes from car registration plates as the basis.

If anyone knows of an official county code list for Ireland, please post a reply up here.

Code County Province
-----------------------------------
AM Antrim Ulster
AH Armagh Ulster
C Cork Munster
CE Clare Munster
CN Cavan Ulster
CW Carlow Leinster
D Dublin Leinster
DL Donegal Ulster
DN Down Ulster
DY Derry Ulster
FH Fermanagh Ulster
GW Galway Connacht
KE Kildare Leinster
KK Kilkenny Leinster
KY Kerry Munster
LD Longford Leinster
LH Louth Leinster
LK Limerick Munster
LM Leitrim Connacht
LS Laois Leinster
MH Meath Leinster
MN Monaghan Ulster
MO Mayo Connacht
OY Offaly Leinster
RN Roscommon Connacht
SO Sligo Connacht
TE Tyrone Ulster
TN Tipperary N Munster
TS Tipperary S Munster
WD Waterford Munster
WH Westmeath Leinster
WW Wicklow Leinster
WX Wexford Leinster

Note: I notice on some sites I'm involved with there is an increase in people choosing Ireland instead of the UK as their country along with their postcode (particularly following when the United Kingdom was devolved - Northern Ireland assembly came together 8th may 2007) , so, NI counties are included to encompass Antrim, Armagh, Down, Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone.

I have attached a county code array in a TXT file to make it easier to copy across the list of codes and counties.

cheers

dub

Is it correct to refer to the new ecommerce suite as the "Drupal eCommerce API?"

message for Gordon and the EC DEV Team

I've been playing around with the recent dev versions of the new ecommerce suite of modules and I'm amazed by how tight and also how expansive the new ecommerce framework is.

I'm just getting my head around how it all works together - I'm aware the checkout has some work to do, but, I'm impressed with what I've seen so far - - in particular the inclusion of the advanced Views.module and Rules.module integration which blows wide open the scope and capabilities of ecommerce with Drupal..

The new framework design makes it feel more like a Drupal eCommerce API than a regular module download.

Is that correct? i.e. am I right to refer to it as an eCommerce API for Drupal...in a similar way the Forms API has evolved?

And if that's the case, how do you see it moving forward...do you envisage eCommerce profiles...like distribution profiles for Drupal?

For example, as I see it, now that the eCommerce suite has been tightened up so much, it makes it practical now to submit music download shop profiles or apparel shop profiles that sit on top of the new Drupal eCommerce API?

Appreciate you're all obviously very busy with the new dev versions, but, any thoughts?

cheers

Dub

Most usable catalog

This might be somewhat off-topic for this group. If it is, I apologize and please delete this post.

A customer of ours asked to put his product catalog online. As an example he provided http://www.achatimedia.net/guides/sicli/catalogue_content.html. He also wants it to be searchable and there will be an e-commerce part. We explained that using Flash for this is not the best idea and that it is better to make sure that everything is categorized correctly and etc. etc.

He then asked if we had an example of the type of catalog we can build for him and that made me realize that I haven't seen the "perfect" catalog on the internet yet. All the online stores I've consulted always were lacking in one feature or another. They were missing the categorization I wanted to search for or I couldn't search on price AND something else or it was lacking a well-built faceted search or ...

I'd like to ask for examples of the most usable catalogs/stores here and if they are not perfect what they were lacking. What would the perfect catalog look like for you?

e-Commerce v4.x-beta1 for Drupal 6.x has been released.

Hi,

Just a quick anouncement. I have tagged up eC v6.x-4.0-beta1 for people to start playing with and finding the bugs in.

Currently the checkout is a bit iffy but I am going to rewritting the checkout to take advantage of the new formapi and allow for a bit more functionality and being able to customize exactly the way you want it.

Lastly ec_charge is not in yet but that will be comming soon as it will allow you to create any additional charges that you want.

mCommerce SMS Payment gateway module for Drupal eCommerce

Hi guys,

I'm at the final stages of a new mCommerce gateway module for Drupal ecommerce for a client that okayed the release of it on Drupal.org.

...in brief, what the module does is allow you to use mobile phones as a method of payment on a Drupal ecommerce site. i.e. instead of using paypal, credit cards, debit cards, google checkout etc. you can now offer an mCommerce option where the customer pays via their mobile phone (reverse SMS txt billing message).

In anticipation of the module release (It's for version Drupal eCommerce 5.x-3.5 and will be updated to Drupal eCommerce version 4 soon) I've setup a demo site, which is a very simple Drupal music downloads shop, to illustrate how it works.

Working demo: http://www.dublindrupaller.com/mobillcash_demo

Mobillcash Demo Music Shop.

Click here for more details about the mCommerce payment provider, mobillcash (part of Vidicom) or to setup a free merchant account.

The mobillcash.module will be available over the next few days from drupal.org - If you want a copy of the module for testing or to try out, please drop me an email and I'll email you a copy.

e-Commerce v4: Help wanted

Hi,

I have just about completed all the views integration for e-Commerce v4 and because this is really just maniplating views configurations I was wondering if there are some people out there who can create more default views which can be added into e-C.

If you want to help just download the latest HEAD release from CVS and you can start creating views to allow store owners and customers to access the e-commerce information.

Once you have finished just export them and add them to the issue queue.

If there is anything missing that you would like to be able to do just raise an issue.

Drupal/PHP Engineer | Peter Glenn Ski and Sports

Dealing with VAT

During Drupalcon Szeged, we spent a lot of time talking about how to handle VAT. Unfortunately I have only a slightly better idea of VAT today as I did before I left for DrupalCon. I would like some input from people in the community who work with VAT on a daily basis.

I'd like to try and answer the following.

What is VAT

How does it work

How should VAT be handled by ecommerce companies inside and outside Europe

Using this information we should be able to support VAT with Drupals commerce systems.
