Jamaican Library Group wants training in Drupal
Greetings Drupal users,
I attended a Library technology Conference in Canada over 2 days. The conference is dubbed “Access” 2009 conference – a library technology conference focused on access issues and the technologies that provide access to information. From that conference, I realized that there are so many Canadian libraries using Drupal and doing really cool stuff with it.
I happen to be the chair of the Library and Information Association of Jamaica. We want to update our Website: http://www.liaja.org.jm/ using Drupal.
White House Endorses Drupal
Hey everyone,
the White House jettisoned its proprietory CMS and has decided to use an Open Source Content Management Systems. Why did Barack Obama's administration choose this over there own system because it had better security options.

Jamaica Drupal User Group: September Meetup
For the September meetup, we will have a presentation on SMS integration with Drupal. This is primarily done through the SMS Framework module: http://drupal.org/project/smsframework.
The SMS Framework is set of modules that enables interaction between mobile users and Drupal using SMS. Several popular SMS gateways are supported and the included API allows developers to add support for additional gateways. The API also allows other modules to implement SMS features.
The SMS Framework allows you to:
* Send SMS messages using any supported gateway

Another Meetup and Presentation
As Varun had said before the previous event we are planning another presentation this week. I'll be doing a little presentation on Multi-Site Setups.
The Agenda will be as follows:
- First 15 min to half hour: introductions
- Who are you?
- What brings you here?
- What do you do?
- How do you use Drupal?
- What are your websites, what companies do you work for?
- Generally catching up.
- Presentation: "Drupal Multi-Site"
- What is a Multi-Site Setup?
- Pros and Cons of Multi-Site Setups?
Meetup and Presentation
OK, so we are overdue for another meetup. To make up for this, we have two great community presentations lined up. Two people have so far volunteered to present so that this week we'll have Nesta's talk on how to do theme overrides in Drupal and next week Yannick (axle_foley00) has offered to present on multisites.
So this week Nesta will lead us through theme overrides with "Overriding HTML output in Drupal" (extremely useful stuff). Here's an outline of the talk:
Aim: Should be able to:
1. Locate overridable output
2. Override HTML using
* Functions - template.php
Which day of the week works best for the meetups?
aegir
There has been some discussion on managing multisite installs, I noticed this screencast today about Installing Aegir 0.2 RC 1 and thought I would pass it on:

Next Meetup
Many Thanks to all those who made it to the meetup yesterday. As a quick follow up note, since we did not have an internet connection I could not at the time show people what a more polished photo gallery would look like. http://www.varunbaker.com is a good example of a site built with the technique I demoed at the meetup using cck and views.
First Jamaica Meetup
Welcome to the first Jamaican Drupal meetup. I will try to share what I know of Drupal development starting with a presentation on using CCK/Views in Drupal. I welcome contributions and suggestions from other members of the community in terms of what people want to discuss, so feel free to add to the agenda, which for the moment looks like this:
-
First 15 min to half hour: introductions
- Who are you?
- What brings you here?
- What do you do?
- How do you use Drupal?
- What are your websites, what companies do you work for?
- Generally catching up.
Drupal meetup
Greetings all
Let me know if others are interested in organizing a local meetup. I would think that a location can be worked out either at UWI or UTECH. I'd be happy to give some form of a presentation and so I'm open to suggestions and/or other presenters. I'm thinking along the lines of an introduction to Views/cck
Please reply with comments if you are interested. There are Drupal sites to be built and money to be made!
contract drupal development - new site help on as needed basis | andresschulz.com
I am quoting a client for a new website, which i think drupal is good for. What i am not too familiar with is mysql queries, and a lot of Drupal im sure. I usually figure things out on my own but i like to get this one done quickly, so not so much time to try and learn from mistakes... the client wants 2 sites. Will deal with only one at a time.

Collaboration
Hello fellow Drupalers, welcome to the Drupal Jamaica group, we might be currently small but that doesn't mean we cant have an effect on web development in Jamaica or even contributions to the Drupal community. I would like to know who here is an active Drupal developer and would like to discuss the way forward for this group.
One love!
