Drupal Classes or Courses at 3rd level/Uni/College, online or face to face?

heather's picture

heather - Thu, 2008-12-18 17:30

Does anyone know of academic institutions offering classes or courses which cover Drupal?

Both face to face and/or online?

NB: Not courses using Drupal as a medium, rather: Drupal as the subject matter.

I would love to hear from lecturers who are planning courses, or who have taught Drupal in their courses. I would like to see examples, how they fit in to the existing academic programmes in their institutions, how they promote it, and what the outcomes have been.

Thank you!

Hi,

This week sees the release of iteration 11.

http://drupal.markboultondesign.com/iteration11

This week we have made lots of some smaller changes throughout the whole prototype, items that were delayed from iteration 10. For this release, we've paid particular attention to several pages:

  1. Marketplace

  2. Download and Extend

  3. Modules landing page

  4. Themes landing page

  5. Search_by theme

  6. Home page

  7. Dashboard

There has been a lot of great feedback on the iteration 10 post, thank you all for your valuable input.

Hi,

This week sees the release of iteration 10 in the Drupal redesign prototype.

We're currently working with the Drupal Association to further define an advertising strategy for the redesigned d.o. Therefore, we've included a few more ads, but it probably isn't indicative of the final strategy.

Drupal.org re-design prototype iteration 8

public
robertmills - Thu, 2008-11-13 17:44

Hi,

Iteration 8 is now available for you to browse and comment on. Last week the redesign took a pretty drastic change in direction so this week's release isn't as massive as we have worked to consolidate changes to the IA, reacting to feedback from the testing and to trends we have established in the community feedback.

Last week Leisa posted her thoughts on why we have moved in this direction and you can read her thoughts here:

http://www.disambiguity.com/drupalorg-redesign-iteration-7-for-your-revi...

Leisa will also be posting again shortly to further discuss our thoughts and reasons for recent changes as well as talking specifically about the modules section.

Knight Drupal Initiative closing for 2008, program to reopen during DrupalCON DC

When the Knight Foundation announced the Knight Drupal Initiative at DrupalCON Boston, we entered a partnership with the Drupal community.

Our goal was to establish an open, ongoing grant application process for the purpose of creating better open source web applications.

The last six months have been phenomenal. Too successful, in fact. We currently have six proposals under funding review, with over $600,000 (USD) in potential grants for Drupal projects.

Via this story, I see that GoDaddy now has their own auto installer, called Hosting Connection.

It installs Drupal amongst other scripts, and also includes a rating component.

We should:

  • reach out to GoDaddy and see how Hosting Connection is run and updated with Drupal out of the box
  • encourage people on GoDaddy to rate Drupal highly

Free Drupal bumpf for zero-budget regional Drupal events?

We're planning a Drupal event here in Ireland. The "biggest Drupal event in Ireland- ever". We have about 40 people coming so far - and 2 coming from the DrupalUK user group too. (30 attendees are coming from MSc programmes planning to attend en masse). And we expect the numbers to rise in the next few weeks. Many of these attendees will be "curious" and not necessarily Drupal users (yet, muhuhaha).

This will be the first time they are seeing Drupal in action.

We have a zero budget: all volunteer efforts with a fully donated venue and catering from a local college. (YAY!)

Dojo 2.1: Another attempt to revive the Drupal learning and mentoring group

gusaus - Wed, 2008-10-08 06:38

Several months have passed since the Dojo lost it's way a bit when some noble ninjas attempted to create a great deal of good for the Drupal project. In a group of 1500+ members, there is no way to achieve any sort of consensus to why it stalled, how it could succeed, or what the purpose was in the first place. There are, however, a lot of indicators that the concept/ideal of an open learning/mentoring group is solid and is worth reviving.

Features include a project magazine (with cool drag and drop functionality), wiki, events calendar, discussion forums, sponsoring etc. Amazee is a great showcase for many things Drupal is good at including a great user interface.

Maybe it is an interesting candidate for a d.o front page showcase? Here is a summary of recent press coverage:

One observation I've had from lurking in the Knight Drupal Initiative meetings is something that's haunted me before. Just a few days ago, Ubuntu said it will offer Alfresco CMS. This will sure give Alfresco wider exposure and wider use because it is easier to install using apt-get/aptitude.

While Drupal is already in both Debian's and Ubuntu's repositories, it is quite a few revisions behind on Drupal 5, and no Drupal 6 is available.

Related to Kierans post on the Open Source CMS survey, I just encountered a blog entry being hyped on Twitter about the 25 Enterprise Social Media Platforms/Companies To Be Aware Of.

In my comments, I said I was struck by the absence of the leading open source content management systems--WordPress, Joomla! and Drupal--which have become social media platforms in their own right.

I don't know how much credence or play this analysis piece will get, but thought it should be on our radar screen.

How does Drupal compare to other CMSs?

grantkruger's picture
public
grantkruger - Wed, 2008-07-02 01:02

I originally posted this discussion to the Portland OR DUG and was then asked to repost it here.

Recently NTEN (Nonprofit Technology Network) put out their 2008 CMS Satisfaction Survey. You can find the full text and numbers for this survey on their web page, though it will cost you $50 if you are not a member. They are a valuable nonprofit themselves, so supporting them seems to be a good thing, and this report would go a long way to helping many of you convince your clients to use Drupal, more than you could achieve in $50 of billable time in many cases, so it would be $50 well spent.

In any event I thought I'd at least share the basics of that report, on how Drupal ranked in customer satisfaction and related areas. Remember though that this is not representative of all your clients, but is nonprofit focussed, which is a group probably more likely to use free tools before most others, so it is unlikely that the world at large matches these numbers, fascinating as they are.
